What is Boucherie Feeds?

Boucherie Feeds is a program run by the popular New Orleans restaurant Boucherie, which aims to eliminate hunger among the Crescent City’s youth. Since its inception in 2017, Boucherie Feeds has grown significantly—as of 2024, the program works with eleven different schools and partners with the much-loved nonprofit Healthy School Food Collaborative to provide meals to New Orleans summer camps.

While New Orleans is known for its rich food history and culture, one in five New Orleanians live with food insecurity, and 64% of children in Orleans Parish are income-eligible for federal nutrition programs. Boucherie’s Executive Chef and Owner, Nathanial Zimet, believes wholeheartedly that all New Orleans residents deserve to be fed and fed well. That's why we’ve launched Boucherie Feeds: a program dedicated to providing complete, nutritious, tasty meals to students in low-income areas throughout New Orleans. In addition to Boucherie's current school breakfast and lunch program, a partnership with the Healthy School Food Collaborative now allows Boucherie to deliver nutritious meals to 1000 public school students throughout the city.

We eventually plan to serve 5,000 meals a day to local schools and curate a CSA box intended firstly for our school partners.

There is a continued severe need within our educational system that houses thousands of students who are often hungry throughout the day. What is frequently fed is processed and undesirable food that is often thrown out and wasted at the end of the day.
